ROYALTY FREE, COPYRIGHT CLEARED IMAGES FOR EDUCATORS & STUDENTS

The Bridgeman Art Library’s Innovative Education Website

Educators and students who need to use images for teaching, presentations, special projects and anything education related, can now access the most comprehensive educational art resource.

Bridgeman Education, is the online educational resource of The Bridgeman Art Library which has over 30 years of specialist art historical knowledge and experience. Bridgeman Education is an innovative digital image resource specifically designed for students and academics covering a broad spectrum of subjects.

The database offers educators and students a unique and flexible way to access and use art-historical and cultural imagery ranging from prehistory to the present day, and sourced from the world’s major museums, art collections, and historical sites, as well as private collections and artists.

Extending far beyond Europe and the Western world, Bridgeman Education represents a vast range of civilizations from Aboriginal to Aztec, from Chinese dynasties to the Vikings and ancient Egypt; providing users with access to over 310,000 images on a single website.

Bridgeman Education is a subscription-based, annually renewable resource allowing the institution’s staff and enrolled students to draw upon its contents to organise lectures, compile course packs, presentations, or for study. The emphasis is on simplicity, rapid access and organization.

Because there is no requirement to use proprietary software, the service complements the educator’s or student’s own software or organisational methods for storing and retrieving imagery.

EASY SEARCH METHODS

Search all media including photography, fine art, engravings, sculpture, architecture, archaeology & ethnography, history, science & medicine, decorative arts and artefacts.  In researching a theme, subject or artist, users regularly find artworks previously unknown to them in their field of study.  This makes our collection second to none as a resource.

  •  Browse through our index categories which have been developed in conjunction with educational institutions specifically for the academic user.  You can search by subject, movement, period, school or objects including antiquities, armour, musical instruments and inventions.
  • Quick search with flexible and intuitive keywords to access sets of images from all periods, movements, schools and styles in seconds.
  • Specialised search, display and save functions enable users to create their own interactive slide presentations for classroom use.

TAILOR-MADE IMAGE SETS

In addition to the online resource, Bridgeman Education’s art historians are on-hand to create tailor-made image sets on CD-ROMS to maximize visual learning for any given course program or lecture series, as well as offer research advice.

Alternatively, various pre-prepared CD-ROMS containing specific image selections are available.

Digitization of images from the college slide library is also possible as an additional service.

PROJECT SILVER

Bridgeman Education is currently involved in the creation of a series of educational modules as part of a UK government funded project; Project SILVER, aimed at developing new digital learning tools for the classroom. These modules will cover subjects such as the History of Art, Engineering, Social Sciences and many more .
