MESSAGE FOR PARENTS
This story has been written for very important reasons. The main one being to raise children's awareness of fire safety and prevention measures.
If one were to visit the burns unit of Princess Margaret Children's Hospital, a most disturbing sight would greet your eyes. Children, some of them babies, have sever burns to their bodies caused in many respects by carelessness and lack of knowledge about fire prevention. To be scarred by burns, both physically and psychologically may mean a deformity for life, a condition that could have been prevented if a little care and thought had been taken.
In this story, Jamie carries a message to everone. The main theme being raising community awareness about fire prevention and protection measures. We know that our children are excellent carriers of this important message. Adults will listen to their children who tell them about the mportance of all aspects of fire safety. It is, therefore, important that the fire safety and prevention message continues to be taught by safety educators and fire and emergency personnel.
Hot water burns like fire, fire burns! Our skin is precious and needs looking after. Jamie got it right - stop, drop, cover and roll, stay down low and go, go, go! Taking care of yourself, your friends and family is a great thing to do. Have fun reading Jamie's story.
